What does the How Rich Am I calculator measure?
It measures where your household income sits against India’s income distribution. It uses equivalised income (your household income adjusted for how many people it supports) and India’s income distribution from the World Inequality Database, then reports what share of the country earns more than you.
Can I use the how wealthy am I calculator for net worth instead of income?
No. This tool compares annual household income, not accumulated wealth. A net-worth comparison needs a different dataset and a different method, and the two answers can differ sharply: a retired person with savings and no salary would place very differently on each.
Is my data safe?
Yes. The calculation happens entirely in your browser: your income and household details are never sent to us, never stored, and never logged, so there is nothing on our side to leak.
How often is the data updated?
The current figures reflect the World Inequality Database’s 2023 estimates for India. We move to newer estimates when they are published, which is typically every few years.
